Cardiac Saves
Holiday stress is inevitable! But thanks to AMR’s investment in our community, Harrison & Hancock County’s cardiac saves are higher than the national average.
In Harrison and Hancock counties, our local out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survival rate is higher than the national average. AMR is proud to be a contributor to this life-saving rate.
Did you know that AMR established an American Heart Association (AHA) Training Center right here in Gulfport back in the 1990s? Since 2020, we've trained over 8,000 individuals in life-saving CPR techniques. These skills are critical in maintaining blood flow to the brain and vital organs of cardiac arrest victims until first responders arrive. Those precious minutes can truly be the difference between life and death, and as bystanders, you are the first link in the chain of survival.
AMR is dedicated to increasing this survival rate and growing our community program even further in the future. Our aim is to train more individuals, preparing them to respond at a moment's notice, increasing the chances of survival for those in need.
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) play a critical role in saving lives before the ambulance arrives. CPR helps maintain blood circulation and oxygen supply to vital organs, buying precious time for the patient. AEDs can quickly identify and treat life-threatening heart rhythms, delivering shocks when needed, greatly improving the chances of survival in cardiac arrest cases. Together, these interventions can make a significant difference in increasing a person's chances of surviving a cardiac emergency before professional medical help arrives.
